Do you work with a pre-reg – CPPE events to recommend for them

August 21, 2017

Do you work with a pre-registration pharmacist? Make sure that they have registered with CPPE to ensure that they are able to access the Health Education England-funded learning that they are entitled to.

Applying information to clinical scenarios under time pressure is a key skill for the GPhC registration assessment. Traditionally this is something that many pre-regs have found more difficult than questions that rely on knowledge or calculations questions. So we want pre-regs to start to work on this skill now at the start of their pre-registration year. We have two types of event that will support them to apply information to clinical scenarios under time pressure.

What’s new in the BNF – an event for pre-registration pharmacists

During the GPhC registration assessment, candidates will be given excerpts of data on medicines that they will not be familiar with and need to apply this to practice. What’s new in the BNF events consist of case studies on new information that may be unfamiliar. Pre-regs will work with peers to apply this information to clinical case studies. These events are especially for pre-registration pharmacists so this is an excellent opportunity for them to build networks with others.

CPPE focal point events

The data excerpts in the GPhC registration assessment are wide-ranging. During our focal point events we focus on one particular clinical area, for example type 2 diabetes. Attendees will need to use a range of reference sources to complete clinical case studies. These events are open to pre-regs, pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. So this is a great opportunity for you to attend an event together. These events are also a great way to collect evidence towards the GPhC performance standards for pre-regs for their 13 week review. Specifically these events can support A.3 manage problemsB.2 work effectively with others and C.2 provide additional clinical and pharmaceutical services. Pre-regs do not need to work on all of these areas; you can guide them as to what to focus on.

To book, each person who wants to attend an event needs to login to and scroll down the homepage to upcoming events. Alternatively, you can phone 0161 778 4000 during office hours. Please have details of the event that you would like to attend and your GPhC registration number to hand when you phone.
